I’ve been blessed to become a nurse

But sometimes I feel like I’ve been cursed

I’ve seen people at their best

Many times I’ve met them at their worst

A rewarding career

A lifetime of cheer

If that’s what you think nursing is all about…

I’m sorry to inform you my dear

Sometimes we get cursed out

And people may also scream

You can believe you’re doing your best

And people will still say you’re mean

Sometimes we’re unappreciated which makes us feel like we’ve failed

Sometimes we walk through the door and we know it’s going to be hell

The energy is thick

The patients are sad

Verbal deescalation is everything

But, be sure not to make them mad

And although I’ve experienced some rough times as a nurse, I genuinely love what I do

It feels good to be in a position to help others that really need you

Nursing has become more than a career, it’s become a lifestyle to me

God handpicked some of the strongest women and made them nurses, I’m blessed that he entrusted me

To all of my patients, thank you for you have pushed me to be all that I can be

Your strength has made me stronger

Your vulnerability has helped a ton

You’ve challenged me more than you’ll ever know, but in the same breath gave me courage to move on

I thank you for your bluntness

I thank you for your laughs

I thank you for allowing me to help you and trusting me with stories from your past

You have all helped me so much on this journey to become a better me and as I always tell you right before we depart, make sure you take care of yourself and thank YOU for helping me.

  1. 💪🏿🙏🏽🤝

  2. I can relate to all of this. All of these are so true. I’m a NICU nurse and work that 12hr night shift, there are nights I ask myself why I went into nursing and say why why. I love what I do and I love the families I’ve met and helped along the way. I wouldn’t trade it for anything ☺💙

  3. Me either!
Definitely a rewarding career, makes you put a lot of things into perspective. I agree, wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I work night shift as well! #TwelveHourHustle♥️☺️

  4. I love this post! I am not a nurse, but I have spent many days as a patient in hospitals to the point it was like my second home. I have met so many nurses and made friends with a few and I can say I have a huge respect for you guys. Nurses really don’t get the praise they deserve sometimes. I’ve had nurses that take on tasks they really don’t have to do and those kind acts have made a huge difference in my hospital experience. So Thank you for being a nurse (though I’ve never been your patient lol) I imagine you are just awesome! ☺️

  5. Thank you so much, Manessah! I agree, sometimes we don’t get the praise we deserve && sad to say if I was counting my blessings off of that, they will be slim to none. Good thing I don’t 😊✨
You kind words mean a lot! Thank you for your appreciation ♥️ Hope you’re all better now and can no longer call a hospital your second home…that’s no fun 😪but, bet you were the ideal patient!

  6. Lovely poem and tribute to nursing. And kudos for finding your passion and purpose.

  7. You are very welcome, Janae! Yes, my hats off to you guys! That’s some serious work you do and it deserves the utmost respect! I am much better now, though this past August I had to go in to the hospital, but thankfully nothing serious. But the same nurses I made friends with up there from a year ago remembered me and it’s funny because they’ve become like family. They would just come in my room and chill and we get a good laugh! So I guess you could say I was the ideal patient. Lol! 😁

I hope you have a beautiful day ahead! Stay awesome, my friend! 💕☺️

  8. Thank you so much!
    You as well love 😘♥️

Blessing to her and her family ♥️

  15. At one time I had a next door neighbor who was a nurse. Her advice saved me on trips to– or even prepared me for– the doctor. Thank you all for your service.
